Denken becomes the latest centre to begin using VirtualRehab

Denken, which is specializes in detection, prevention and rehabilitation therapies of patients with cognitive diseases, has introduced VirtualRehab in their centre in Barcelona, Spain.

Denken uses different non-pharmacological therapies to improve neurological functions with personalized cognitive stimulation treatments. The users of the centre not only include patients suffering from cognitive disease but also elderly people who want age in a way that assures the best quality of life for themselves, as well as for their families and caregivers. They chose VirtualRehab to form part of their services as it lends itself perfectly to their treatment philosophy.

VirtualRehab is a clinically validated and CE certified physical rehabilitation software that uses video games with the Microsoft Kinect motion capture technology, which allows patients to perform complex rehabilitation exercises through engaging games. At the same time it allows physiotherapists to create and track the therapy sessions from anywhere in the world through the telerehabilitation capacity of the system.

VirtualRehab allows the user to interact with upper and lower bodygames in a 3D environment. The exercises have been specifically developed and designed with physiotherapists so that the patients do the exercises according to their ability level, working the main body functions such as balance, load transfer, coordination and endurance. The exercises includes highly motivating games to help retrain certain functions that are often deteriorated in the elderly due to different neurological and physical afflictions as well as psychomotor training which is vital for daily activities.

Italo Maione, the Director of the centre noted “We’ve integrated VirtualRehab as part of the cognitive rehabilitation programs offered by our centre. This tool allow us to design a motor-based strategy to complete sensorial and cognitive treatments and offer an integral focus on the mind-body-senses. He adds “The main advantages of using this platform include the engagement with the patient, the control and monitoring of the sessions and the comprehensiveness of the solution for rehabilitation”.
